Airport Information
(Trinidad, West Indies)

Located 27 km / 17 miles from Port of Spain, the capital city of both Trinidad and Tobago, Piarco International Airport (POS) is a small, but modern facility which reopened following a complete renovation as recently as 2001. Trinidad Piarco Airport features relatively low annual passenger figures in comparison to large international airports, but is still a busy hub, facilitating air travel into and out of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Close to Caroni, Centento, Kelly Village, St. Helena and the Chin Chin Savanna Village, Piarco International Airport enjoys excellent views of the mountainous landscape and neighbouring Savannah, and features an impressive atrium area, complete with enormous glass dome. Featuring one terminal (the North Terminal) with three main concourse areas, the national Caribbean Airlines are based here and provide the largest selection of destinations, which range from Kingston in Jamaica, to Georgetown in the Bahamas.

Trinidad Piarco Airport (POS) Information: History and Facilities
Trinidad's Piarco Airport has a rich history and dates back as far as 1931, after its strategic coastal location was chosen on the far south-western side of Tobago. Originally just a simple aerodrome, the airport was instrumental in replacing the need for seaplanes, which used to land around the coastline.

In 1962, the airport's old terminal building was commissioned, followed many years later by the new, fully air-conditioned terminal building, which opened on the 25th May 2001. Today, Piarco Airport (POS) is managed by the regional Airport Authority of Trinidad and Tobago.

Operated by First Citizens Bank, Trinidad Piarco Airport is home to a single bank that comes complete with bureau de change services and ATM machines. Airport shops are plentiful and include a large duty-free hall, along with gift stores, jewellers, news-stands and a range of beauty products, available at the Fabi Cosmetique et Parfumerie.

Eateries are also in good supply at Trinidad Piarco Airport, offering everything from a simply snack to fine dining. The Rituals Coffee House and Church's Chicken are especially popular with passengers. Business travellers should note that the Bel Air International Airport Hotel is located next to the airport and features good conference capabilities.
