Trinidad Piarco International Airport (POS)
Airport Information
(Trinidad, West Indies)
Located 27 km / 17 miles from Port of Spain, the capital city of both Trinidad and Tobago, Piarco International Airport (POS) is a small, but modern facility which reopened following a complete renovation as recently as 2001. Trinidad Piarco Airport features relatively low annual passenger figures in comparison to large international airports, but is still a busy hub, facilitating air travel into and out of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
Close to Caroni, Centento, Kelly Village, St. Helena and the Chin Chin Savanna Village, Piarco International Airport enjoys excellent views of the mountainous landscape and neighbouring Savannah, and features an impressive atrium area, complete with enormous glass dome. Featuring one terminal (the North Terminal) with three main concourse areas, the national Caribbean Airlines are based here and provide the largest selection of destinations, which range from Kingston in Jamaica, to Georgetown in the Bahamas.
Taxis operated by the Airport Taxi Driver's Co-operative provide the main link between the airport and Port of Spain, as well as other Trinidad destinations. These include Fullarton, Point Fortin, San Fernando, Saparia and Toco.
About Trinidad Tourism
Trinidad is part of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and lists amongst the Caribbean's most popular holiday destinations. Considerably larger that the neighbouring island of Tobago, visitors to Trinidad will find a typical tropical paradise, offering great weather, calypso music and picturesque, golden coastlines, with popular beaches including Las Cuevas and Maracas.
Fine cuisine made from fantastic local produce is also typical of the island. Visitors will find that Trinidad has a variety of resorts, close to Piarco Airport (POS), with an emphasis on the comfort and pleasure of guests being of utmost priority. The island's hybrid culture creates a wonderfully eclectic environment where tourists will love to immerse themselves.
Located on the north-westerly side of Trinidad, the Port of Spain has much to offer in the way of tourists, being home to the Movie Towne Entertainment and Shopping Complex, and an enticing nightlife along the Ariapita Avenue. Also worth visiting on Trinidad and within reach of Piarco Airport (POS) are both the nearby town of Chaguanas and the more southerly city of San Fernando.
